Smart Buildings Week: Transforming the Future of the Built Environment
The Safety & Security Event Series has announced the launch of Smart Buildings Week, a new week-long programme of digital content that explores how technology, data and innovation are transforming the built environment.
Delivered in partnership with the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (IWFM), Smart Buildings Week will bring together experts from across facilities management, workplace, technology, security and sustainability to examine what creating a smart building really entails.
Taking place at the end of November from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th, the initiative will look to explore the opportunities and challenges that face organisations as buildings become increasingly more connected, data-driven and intelligent.
From artificial intelligence and IoT to energy management and integrated security, Smart Buildings Week will look beyond the technology itself and consider how smart buildings can deliver better outcomes for the people using and managing them.
The agenda will feature a combination of live webinars, expert video interviews, written features and case studies, giving audiences multiple opportunities to engage with the latest thinking from across the industry.
Content throughout the week will explore a range of themes, including:
- The state of smart buildings – examining the current landscape, investment trends and the technologies driving adoption.
- Connected technologies – exploring IoT, sensors, building management systems, digital twins, automation and predictive maintenance.
- Smart security – looking at the convergence of physical security, access control, video analytics and cybersecurity within connected buildings.
- Sustainability and building performance – examining how data and intelligent systems can improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon and support Net Zero ambitions.
- The workplace of the future – considering how smart buildings can improve employee experience, wellbeing, space utilisation and the way people interact with their working environments.
Andrew Gladstone-Heighton, Head of Policy and Research at IWFM, said: "Smart buildings can transform organisational performance, sustainability and workplace experience, but technology alone does not deliver outcomes.
"People are crucial in successful deployment; facilities management professionals turn building data into practical improvements for their organisations and people.
"Our partnership with Smart Buildings Week will bring together experts to explore the opportunities and challenges in creating and maintaining the assets we are responsible for."
Smart Buildings Week will also provide an opportunity for organisations across the sector to share best practice, showcase innovative approaches and contribute to the wider conversation around the future of intelligent buildings.
Audiences can expect new content to be released across the week, providing practical insight, expert perspectives and opportunities to hear directly from those working at the forefront of smart building innovation.
